Making a better iCal

December 31st, 2005 in Application Tips, Workflow |

If there’s one thing which I don’t like about iCal (well there’re actually 2 things, but I’ll only talk about one of those now) then it’s that newly created events don’t contain an alarm. On the one hand it’s tedious task to select 10 new events by hand and set an alarm for each of them, and on the other I frequently even forget that and thus accordingly forget the actual event as iCal never informs me

Now Robert Blum wrote a small iCal Fix which adresses just this issue: Newly created events now automatically haven an alarm set.
Great.

Update: Safarilicious 0.7.7

December 17th, 2005 in Apple, Events, Mac Apps, Tools & Widgets, Workflow |

Safarilicous
I just updated Safarilicious to 0.7.7. The update includes a number of small bugfixes:

  • Removed a Bug which caused Safarilicios to crash with an “Index Error”
  • Removed a Bug which caused Safarilicious to crash if del.icio.us send an Error 500
  • Added initial Unicode support. Now Unicode Titles or Tags are displayed correctly in the GUI and seem to export correctly, too.
  • The app can be found here

Top productivity boosters for Mac OS X

December 15th, 2005 in Mac Apps, Web Development, Workflow |

Macworld lists the top productivity boosters 2005.

  • Automator
  • Delicious Library
  • LaunchBar
  • OmniOutliner Professional
  • SuperDuper
  • TextWranger
  • I’ve to admit that I’m a bit puzzled that Quicksilver didn’t make it in, but well Launchbar is so it might have been a question of favour. However, all of those mentioned applications are worth a closer look, especially TextWrangler, Automator and OmniOutliner – in my humble opinion.

Tagcloud, extracts tags from your rss-feeds

    December 13th, 2005 in Workflow |

If you have a big bunch of rss-feeds, it’s difficult to keep an eye on it all the time. Sometimes one has scan a lot just to find some interesting gems. Enter Tagcloud, it scans your feeds for you and finds all kinds of worthwhile keywords, these will be displayed for you as a list of tags: Really nice:

TagCloud is an automated Folksonomy tool. Essentially, TagCloud searches any number of RSS feeds you specify, extracts keywords from the content and lists them according to prevalence within the RSS feeds. Clicking on the tag’s link will display a list of all the article abstracts associated with that keyword.

Safarilicious – Export your Safari Bookmarks To del.icio.us

December 12th, 2005 in Events, Mac Apps, Tools & Widgets, Workflow |

    Safarilicious
I created a new Mac OS X Application, dubbed ‘Safarilicious’. It exports your Safari Browser bookmarks to your del.icio.us account.
I totally forgot to mention the app on this blog, allthough I already released it several weeks ago.
