Gigantic Macwall

October 29th, 2005

Ok this doesn’t really fall in any of this blogs categories, but it’s still darn interesting and thus I’ll just file it under “Hardware”.
Some researchers from the University of California merged 25 G5’s together and formed one big Display built out of 50 Apple 30″ Cinema Displays. Check the pictures.

Now we just have to wait for hollywood to release Movies in (10*2560)*(5*1280).

New Saft Version released (8.1.6)

October 29th, 2005

Saft is a hot Safari-Plugin which extends it’s functionality to a great lot, so much that everytime I use a non-safted Safari I always wonder what’s wrong until I realize that it lacks Saft - I got so used to all it’s functions. Get the update here.

Xara X - The High Speed Vector Suite to be released for Mac OS X

October 29th, 2005

Quoting OSNews.com:

“Xara is pleased to announce that it intends to make its flagship graphics product, Xara X, open oource. Xara is also working to bring it to the Linux and Mac platforms. Xara X is the world’s fastest and we believe the most versatile graphics software. It’s primarily a vector graphics program but is one of the new generation of cross-over products that handles photos and drawings with equal ease.”

The Mac version is still in very early stages, but at least they’re working on porting it. Xara is an awesome vector app which offers a great set of features and runs - hands down - so fast that Illustrator feels like it’s running on Mac OS X 10.0 all the time.

G5 Dual-Core tested

October 29th, 2005

Macworld tested the new DualCore G5 processors and concludes that there’s little difference between 2 Single-Core G5’s and 1 Dual-Core G5. So the new Dual-Core-Prozessor system is effectively like having 4 processos. They have some nice benchmarks, more info here:

Web stat widget (sort of)

October 29th, 2005

There’s a Dashboard widget from Slothcam which fetches a new user-defined pic from an URL every 4 seconds (changeable). The whole thing is meant for webcams, but you can as well add the URL of your web stat image, which allows you to act in time if you’re about to get slashdotted again.

iPod users are innovators

October 29th, 2005

Research firm Intelliseek has a story that says (among other things) that iPod users are innovators, that they are more likely to spread consumer-generated media on the Internet, and that they’re more likely to have a blog. So what does that mean; if you buy an iPod it makes you create a blog, or if you have a blog it makes you buy an iPod? Who’s first, the Chicken or the Egg?

2megapixel camera reviews

October 29th, 2005

I have a 2megapixel cameraphone myself, the Sony K750i (which I love with dignity) and it’s great being able to shoot quality-pictures (well more quality than with previous phones) anytime. There’re always situations where you’d love to take a pic, but you don’t always have your SLR handy (as it’s a tad too sized to carry around in your pocket). I’m quite happy with the K750i quality, although it tends to add a lot of grain in darker situations, but still acceptable with me. So if you, too, think about buying one of these new hot 2mpx cameraphones, mobileburn has a shootout with a bunch of nice sample-pics.
